About this event

Nature & Outdoor Coaching Community of Practice: Nature, Culture, and the Sacred Connection Between People and Planet

Facilitated by Russ Watts and Christiane Frischmuth

We all feel a special connection to nature — it's what brings us together in this Community of Practice. And while our clients may be drawn to meeting outdoors as a welcome alternative to sitting at a desk for another hour, they may not fully recognize the impact that being outside will have on reaching their coaching goals and improving their overall wellbeing.

Working with clients outdoors requires attention to factors that don't arise in traditional coaching environments. Weather, physical safety, fitness level, and accessibility all demand consideration. But so does something less obvious: an awareness of how nature figures into a client's cultural or religious practice. The significance of their connection to nature may be deeply rooted in their belief system.

In this session, we will explore how some religious and cultural groups revere nature, and how this knowledge can help us become more culturally competent coaches. Come prepared to share your cultural, religious, or spiritual connections to nature and what it evokes for you.

This session will be facilitated by Melissa Spence.

The session will be held online; a zoom link will be sent upon registration.

Participants will earn 1 Resource Development CCEU.
