Help Us Serve Our Community

Interested in doing some coaching work with non-profit organizations in the DC area? Looking to give and serve while coaching? You've come to the right place! ICF Metro DC partners with  non-profit organizations to bring coaching to individuals and organizations unfamiliar with the power of coaching and/or who may not be able to afford it. Coaching types vary, and include life, leadership, career transition and other areas of focus.

We welcome suggestions about organizations to which we can offer coaching services. For more information on this project, contact the chapter's Community Outreach Director Barbara Smith at outreach@icfmetrodc.org.

Most Recent Outreach Projects (as of April 2011)

Homeward Deployed (now seeking volunteer coaches)

We are seeking volunteer coaches for our partnership with Homeward Deployed, a non-profit organization that supports young and/or disabled veterans and their families through the transition period from when they leave the military until they get settled into a community. Coaches are uniquely suited to this project as they understand the importance of the individual maintaining a sense of purpose as they undergo a monumental life event.

Our chapter coaches will be providing each veteran with pro-bono telephone coaching, typically for a total of six (6) hours.  Coaching engagements are planned to begin on or around May 2, 2011.  Veterans will be encouraged to use the coaching relationships to delve into career skills, networking and transition issues, however the actual content of the discussions will be driven by each veteran. At the onset of this partnership, coaches will be paired with one veteran, but, if interested, the opportunity to continue coaching other veterans is possible.

Capital Youth Empowerment Program (CYEP)

CYEP was founded to assist fathers to develop and maintain a safe and loving relationship with their children. Their main program is called “Fathers in Touch (FIT). enables fathers to become responsible role models in their children’s lives and provides a diversion from, or an alternative to, jail sentences for court-involved fathers. As a new non-profit, CYEP has an all volunteer board of directors composed of up to 15 professionals from around the region. Chapter coaches were paired with a board member to provide 6 to 10 hours of pro-bono coaching between the months of November 2010 and May 2011 to support implementation of their strategic plan, board development and management, and fundraising activities. As new members join the board of directors, they will be offered pro-bono coaching.

Leadership Arlington

We have extended a past partnership with Leadership Arlington, offering pro-bono coaching to participants in Leadership Arlington’s Young Professional Program.  Over two dozen coaches provided 6-8 hours of pro-bono coaching to program participants  b between October 2010 and January 2011, to coincide with the program timeframes. Coaching relationships could be extended at terms mutually agreeable to the coach and participant at the conclusion of the program.

Through the Young Professional Program, the participants were exposed to values espoused by Leadership Arlington: philanthropic awareness, civic engagement, leadership skills development, and connection. Participants were encouraged to use the coaching relationships to delve into these areas; however, the actual content of the discussions will be driven by the participant.

In the future, we anticipate additional opportunities to provide pro bono coaching to other Leadership Arlington program participants. For more information see, http://leadershiparlington.org.
